Social Media: The People's Portion

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

This is a "word in season". I say that because I know with every fiber of my being that it will not always be a "word in season". This  word will radically change when the season of liberty changes , and therefore it's crucial to understand this particular word in it's season.  This is a  "present word".

On social media, and especially Facebook, as far as the Christian or "Believer" community is concerned, obviously there are people from all levels in their walk with the Lord. We have some who are proven ministers with successful churches. They may post their exhortations daily or weekly, and some even several times a day.

Then there are some from what are considered to be "para-church" ministries, and they do likewise.

There are also some "Market Place" ministries who have accrued much credibility with the Lord's people who are recognized and gladly received.

We see the postings of these proven ones, and we "like" not only because there is a "bearing witness" to what they share, but because they have earned our respect for their faithful service.

Then, there are those believers who are not recognized in any capacity of spiritual authority, but they share and give what's on their heart. This is met with all sorts of reactions:

Some feel they have no right to do so.  Some resent their posting because they feel an "equal" in spiritual stature  is actually trying to "lord it over them".   Some resent their posting because they see them as "show offs" just taking advantage of a situation where they can say whatever they wish without any accountability. But there is always accountability. ( More on that further down in the article. )

But, I believe the Lord spoke to me today that this is a time when Facebook, and other social media is "the people's portion".   God is giving a space of time for those who have been bound to now have the vehicle of LIBERTY FROM THEIR BONDAGE.

How have they been bound??? They've been...
  • bound with fear of man,
  •  bound with feeling the inability to overcome obstacles in their own personal religious (for lack of a better word) spheres,
  •  bound by limitations of circumstances that have kept them from "striving for masteries" (see 2 Timothy 2:5) as would be their expressed desire to do to so, (in other words they lack education in Biblical studies.)
  • bound by the logistics of the responsibilities of their lives
  • bound with other things not mentioned here...
But the opportunity to use Social Media as a vehicle of expression  is for PURPOSE, and that purpose is that the word of the Lord might have free course!

I know that for God to use just ordinary people with no "letters"  is offensive to some of religious sensibilities. Just like it was offensive for those who had labored hard, and borne the heat of the full day of work to be paid the same wages as those who only labored one hour. (Matthew 20:1-13)  Just like it was offensive that some poor pitiful sinner got the Lord's commendation when he smote his chest saying, "Lord, be merciful to me a sinner" over that one who prayed extravagantly, knowing he had done everything right in keeping God's laws. (Luke 18:10-14)  Just like Jesus pointed out the widow's two mites as being worthy of note over the abundance given by those who were well able to do so.  (Mark 12:41-44)

Just doesn't seem fair at all.

That some newborn babe in Christ who is some johnny-come-lately totally wet behind the ears can give a word on social media that causes a well-seasoned saint of God to read twice because they are either comforted or convicted testifies to the fact that God is using social media, and in this season, it is "the people's portion!"

That those who have not been "ordained" have a place where they can share from the depths of their own personal walk with the Lord and prophetically bring "exhortation, edification, and comfort" as well as deeper spiritual challenges tells us again that God has ordained this as "the people's portion".

That those who have been silence in the church, and yet have gifts of discernment can have a forum to express themselves knowing that those who do have spiritual authority will be reading and considering what they share is a GOOD thing, and again a testimony that at this time social media is "the people's portion".

You say, but what about those who are flakey? troublemakers? bitter in spirit? too ambitious? doctrinally "off"? What about "accountability"? There is no one to check them.

Oh, yes there is!!! This is where the Holy Ghost within you, that very same Holy Ghost that says you have no need that any man teach you is at work! Any one who is truly born from above by the incorruptible seed of the Word of God will KNOW when they are not bearing witness to someone's spirit. Anyone will be able to spot in due time a person of the particular "ilk" I have mentioned. NOTICE that the whole context of 1 John 2:27:

26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 1 John 1:26, 27...and I suggest reading the entire chapter.

This is NOT a scripture advising you to forsake listening to a man of God, whatever his calling may be. It's not telling  you that you don't need a pastor or a shepherd or a teacher of the Word speaking into your life! It is telling you that the Holy Ghost within you will let you know when you are being deceived or spiritually seduced! When a teacher or preacher is ministering under the unction of the Spirit of God that IS the Holy Ghost teaching you!

I will venture to say that I believe just about anyone reading this article can give at least one name of a person whom  they did not find credible after considering their sharings. That was probably the Holy Spirit within letting you know to close your spirit to what they have to say.

And being willing to withdraw something shared if a man or a woman of God, or another member of the body of Christ can point out where it is scripturally in error shows an attitude of accountability.

When one refuses to be accountable in any way, then there is an anti-christ spirit at work, and when God's people who have been given this "people's portion" are  mindful of the importance of having both the witness of the Spirit within, as well as a spirit open to correction, then the the anti-christ spirit that could so easily have free reign on social media is checked, and loses momentum!

God is using Social Media, and everyone is taking advantage of it. It's like a "great equalizer". It's a place where mountains are made low and valleys are being filled in. How so? Because it levels things out when someone who is recognized and lauded as "someone special" in the kingdom is on the same playing field as the poorest struggling saint who cannot seem to ever get their act together!

A "Spurgeon" of messages who can be powerfully intimidating in his pulpit on a Sunday morning, who never got a tough question because he is so padded against any such a thing happening that no one "durst ask him a question" is suddenly  confronted with someone who is not under his  domain unleashing a hardball question, and there they are....the highway is flat, and if it's a "highway of holiness", the man of God will answer with grace, and the one posing the question will "entreat" and not "rebuke".   (See 1 Timothy 5:1)  If other less gracious attitudes are manifesting, then it is  time to go back to the corner, and re-acquaint yourself with the rules. Honoring one another is ALWAYS in order in the kingdom of God!!!

In closing to this article, I'd ask you to consider a few scriptures:

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:  2 Thessalonians 3:1

This was the attitude of the Apostle Paul.  The book of Thessalonians is not a "pastoral" epistle.  It was written to the body of Christ, the Church at Thessalonica.  It was written to the ministry, as well as the saints, congregation, lay people...whatever you may wish to call them.  He is praying that the same liberty they ALL had in bringing the word of the Lord might be his blessed condition in ministering also!!!  This tells me that Paul, who was an apostle, had ears to hear what the Spirit would say to anyone in the body of Christ, and he did not shun them because he considered himself too advanced in his station to do so!  He not only wanted their liberty in sharing, he saw the word of the Lord under those circumstances of coming forth from ALL of God's people as being glorified!

You will remember this Bible story:

26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all theLord'S people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them! Numbers 11:26-29.

If Moses, the "proven" prophet in the midst and God's "man of the hour" had grace and patience when the Lord used someone else who apparently had no credentials, shouldn't that also be our attitude?  Well...on Social Media, the Lord is allowing attitudes to be tested and proven!  Are we going to receive whomever He chooses to send?  Or, are we going to shun and forbid those we consider unworthy of speaking because they don't meet certain criteria we have established in our own minds?  I want to be a "receiver", and not a "shunner"!!! And I'm thankful that God is establishing Social Media as a place for "the people's portion"!  How about you?

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in Jesus Name, thanking You that we live in a time when indeed the word of the Lord is having free course!  Let us ever delight in how You speak through Your people from the least to the greatest. Let us never "despise prophesyings". Let us never be the one to put a muzzle on that one whom You might be sending to speak to us because we are so boxed into a religious system of man we don't recognize Your right to speak through any vessel You so desire.

We remember that when John was in the wilderness, You chose to speak to him rather than through the established religious order of the day, and by him, that voice of one crying in the wilderness, the way of the Lord was prepared, and ancient prophecy through your servant Isaiah was even fulfilled!
We recognize Social Media as " the people's portion".  It is a platform You have given to Your body to minister one to another across many religious,  ethnic, cultural, socio-economic levels, and  geographical  distances.

We thank You that in the midst of all other activity on broad social media networks...both secular and spiritual, acceptable and reprehensible, pure or vile, as we converse, interact and fellowship, we see Your Hand ministering, and hear Your Voice speaking, and we thank YOU for this season of Your favor on Social Media, and ask You for Your grace and wisdom to rightly use this current advantage for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the advancement of Your kingdom in the earth.

In Jesus Name, Amen and Amen!!!

Always in the Love of Jesus,

Clo D.
